It was 1987 and I vividly remember watching POISON for the first time on MTV with "Talk Dirty to Me". Being there and watching it for the first time on MTV and thinking this is great stuff and so quickly we became fans. We've listened to this music spanning the past 30 years. But yet, being there for that first time of hearing these songs, was amazing. It was a great and evolving time for music back then. There were a number of heavy metal/rock n' roll genres at that time. So many great bands on MTV, Poison was one of those who dominated music videos, radio and my cassette collection. If you grew up in the 80's you know what I am talking about.
Fast forward to 2017, Poison had been on a bit of a hiatus and had not played together for several years for a number of reasons. That year, Poison hit the road with Tesla and Def Leppard filling arenas across the United States. Up to this point I had not yet photographed a band in an arena show. Unfortunately I didn't get the green light to shoot Def Leppard and Tesla, but that was ok with me. I was thrilled to cover Poison. A band I had been following and has been a constant in my musical playlist since the days of 1986.
With a last minute photo pass approval, I was in. I got to cover Poison at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on April 12th, 2017. The only other time I had seen Poison live was in 2008 with Dokken and Sebastian Back. Poison was just one of those bands that for one reason or another I never got to see live back in the day. Better late than never. Poison hit the stage that night after Tesla and before Def Leppard. Being in the photo pit for Poison that night was a blessed experience for me as a long time fan. My 13 year old self could have never imagined such things some 30 years down the road. I was honored to be given the opportunity to cover this band
The band was all original, Bret Michaels, C.C. DeVille, Bobby Dall and Rikki Rocket. They sounded amazing and owned the stage... and the crowd that night. It was great to see this band back together on the stage again. They looked like they were having a great time. Hopefully this is the beginning of seeing Poison back out on the road. Poison provided Nothing But A Good Time that night!
