Balmer School | Arcade Pond | New Village - Whitinsville

This flight captures the construction progress at the new Northbridge elementary school. The new school is situated next the old school building, the W. Edward Balmer School on Crescent Street. Upon completion of the new school, the old building will be torn down. The new school will incorporate the students of two separate elementary school buildings in town, into a new modern facility that will house students grade K-5.

The Neighborhood

Neighboring the Balmer school is the section of town known as "New Village." Whitinsville is a village of Northbridge, a town that grew from the industry of the Whitin Machine Works. From this aerial view at 380 feet above ground level you see the building architecture and street layout of the duplex and multi-family style mill residences which were originally constructed for the early mill workers to reside in at the turn of the century. An aerial perspective of the Village area of Arcade St., N. Main St., A, B, C, D St., Border and Overlook Streets.  Many of the surrounding historical buildings and mills still remain and occupied with modern businesses.
